Commitment to Students
Because of the dedication and quality of AACC’s faculty and instructional specialists, AACC is ranked among the best community colleges in the nation. Students come to fulfill the promise that education is a path to a fuller, better life. Community colleges must keep that promise, and REU is committed to keeping our promise to students in the face of national trends that look to streamline education by reducing opportunity in the name of efficiency and the bottom line.
Academic Freedom
Academic freedom is central to higher education, and faculty ownership of curriculum and academics ensures the integrity of the institution and any degree or certificate it confers. Faculty and instructional specialists must be the ones who determine what programs and courses we offer and how we teach those courses. Collective bargaining guarantees that the people teaching the classes and instructing students have a role in shaping the college and its mission.
Shared Governance
The democratizing effect of education requires equitable decision making at the college, and the academic experiment is founded on peer-review and self-governance rather than administrative mandate or top-down decision-making. We look forward to working with college administration in that academic model of shared governance, as peers, to ensure that AACC fulfills its promise to the community.
Through collective bargaining and solidarity, REU is how the faculty and instructional specialists who show up for students show up for the college.
